Cabin style indoor decoration made from reindeer antlers

Reindeer antlers make perfect cabin style decoration items. We have put together a few ideas of how we have used reindeer antlers for indoor decoration in our cabin.
We have collected the reindeer antlers while summer hiking in Sweden, where the antlers can be found in large numbers.

The chandelier is made from three medium sized antlers

I have twisted metal wire to hold the antlers together
and as a point to fix the decoration chain



A large size antler is placed in the outhouse to hold the spare toilet rolls

Building an outdoor shower

After building the wood shed, we thought that it would be nice to built an out door shower in connection to the wood shed.
The outdoor showering season started in April, when we actually had to shovel snow out of the outdoor shower before using it, but when the sun is shining the temperature is comfortable. We are using it untill late autumn if it is not too cold and windy.



The outdoor shower is built on the back side of the wood shed, facing the forest

 

 

When the bucket is placed in the sun for a couple of hours before use the water temperature will
be fairly warm, but usually we boil a couple of kettles of water and pour in
to raise the temperature a bit. The water is heated by wood stove or propane stove

There is a stepping stone on the floor.
In cold temperature it is recommended to wear flip-flops as the stone can be quite cold

The shower head has a switch to turn off the water, for better water conservation.
The bucket contains 20 liters of water which is plenty for a quick shower

 

When nature calls...building an outhouse

The old outhouse was about to fall apart, the wooden structure had started to rot, and the door was hanging loose...so something had to be done.
We had planned to re-use as much of the boards as possible from the old outhouse, so this was a project of logistics and timing - we could not start to disassemble the old structure before the new outhouse was just about ready.

The roof structure is ready - now it just needs to be lifted up on top of the structure

The roof structure is built on ground so it is necessary to be two to lift it up on top of the structure

The structure is completed but still has some supporting boards that will be removed later

 

The walls are now covered (that had to be completed in one day because boards from the
 old outhouse was reused on the sides facing the forest - the time without outhouse had to be as short as possible).
The roof has been covered with moss and grass, and even blueberries and raspberries have started to grow there

The lamp has a light sensor, so that it is possible to find the outhouse at night and with no electricity around.
There is also a small reflector below the lamp, making it easier to locate the outhouse with flashlight
